We see you, and we started with you in mind.

There's a particular kind of frustration that comes from standing in a beauty aisle, scanning shelf after shelf, and realising, again, that you were never really the customer they had in mind. It's even more frustrating to be left out of something that shouldn’t inherently be exclusive.

We know that feeling. It's why Deeper exists.

Melanin-friendly isn't a marketing phrase for us. It's a commitment that begins at the beginning of every formulation decision, not at the end. It means that we ask, will this work effectively on skin of colour? And if the answer isn't a resounding yes, we go back to the drawing board.

Skin of colour is biologically distinct in ways that matter. It higher levels of melanin which is what gives it, well, colour. Black and Brown skin (Fitzpatrick types III–VI) feature larger, individually dispersed melanosomes (which are tiny parts inside skin cells called melanocytes that help make and store melanin), as well as fewer ceramides (which are like fat “bricks” in your skin that help hold in moisture). These characteristics mean that skin of colour has higher levels of water loss, making dryness and itchiness more common. Darker skin types also scars and discolours easier than lighter skin types, which is called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It also has a 10-15x higher risk of keloids and hypertrophic scarring. These aren't minor differences, so they deserve formulations built around them.

At Deeper, our values shape everything we do:

IntentionalityEvery decision we make is purposeful, every formula thoughtful, every result intentional. Here, melanated skin isn’t an afterthought.

Dignity: We believe beauty should enhance, never diminish, your sense of self.

Freedom: We create formulas that feel like liberation. No second-guessing. No compromise on care or efficacy. Just good, honest skincare.

This is what melanin-friendly means to us.

So welcome to Deeper. We're building a world where we hope you'll always feel welcome.
